Levi Strauss To Create Security Inspection System On Blockchain

Levi Strauss To Develop Blockchain Security Audit System

Harvard University and Levi Strauss & Co, in cooperation with the analytical center New America, will develop a security system on blockchain, which will be used in production, Reuters reports.

The blockchain system will help to carry out inspections related to labor and safety protection in the factories of Levi Strauss, without resorting to external audit.

It is assumed that the three factories of the company, located in Mexico, with a total number of workers amounting to 5000 people, will be the first where the new audit system will be applied in 2019. In 2020, it will cover another plant. The safety and labor protection will be conducted on blockchain annually.

During the past 25 years, work related to the safety of production was monitored mostly through external audits, and blockchain technology offers a wholly new solution, Eileen McNealy, a Harvard University employee, said.

A specific index developed at Harvard will be used in the blockchain-based audit system. According to Allison Price, CEO of the Blockchain Trust Accelerator at New America, using this system means that from now on, no one can manipulate data.

The blockchain will be provided by ConsenSys, founded by Joseph Lubin, one of the Ethereum creators. Reuters reports that all work is being done at the expense of a grant provided by the US State Department.

Earlier, Joseph Lubin joined the board of directors of the ErisX trading platform.
